Members in our congregation aim to follow Jesus’ example of serving and helping those less fortunate. There are opportunities to volunteer and carry out the work Jesus asked of us in our local community and beyond.
Food Baskets: Each Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring, Redeemer provides approximately 25 Food Baskets for families in the community that need assistance. Volunteers buy/donate, pack and deliver food baskets to needy families in the community 4 times a year. They are always in need of volunteers to help divide out the donations and deliver them.
School Supplies: Provided to students in need in the local community with a big push at the start of the school year in the fall.
Quilters for Humility of Mary Shelter: A talented group of ladies meet twice a month to make quilts and donate them to the homeless shelter and other organizations in need. Contact Fran Christiansen if interested or questions.
Food Pantry: Redeemer Lutheran Church has long supported the Bettendorf Food Pantry through donations and volunteer labor. Each month, our congregation collects a different food item and takes our collection to the panty for hungry families. Contact Marcia Johnson if interested or questions.
Café on Vine: This local organization provides a free, lunchtime meal to the needy of the community 365 days each year. It is the only meal site in the Quad Cities to do so. Redeemer members serve supper at Cafe on Vine on the third Sunday of each month. We have six teams that each take two months out of the year, and provide food that will be served at the meal site. Join a team and know that you are helping to feed the homeless right here in the Quad Cities. Contact church office if interested or questions.
Blood Drive: This is held twice a year in cooperation with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center at the church. Donors are always needed. Watch for signups.
Bingo: Redeemer volunteers help Senior Citizens play bingo at Bettendorf Health Care Center the third Monday of each month. Volunteers always needed to help the residents and Bongo prize donations are very appreciated. Families are welcome to volunteer too. Residents love kids. Contact Nell Enders and Scarlet White if interested or questions.
Caring and Sharing: When a family experiences an illness, birth, death, or hospitalization, volunteers provide meals, drive members to appointments, and assist with household tasks or childcare. Drivers and cooks always needed.
Meals on Wheels: Every Monday, volunteers pick up a meal at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church and deliver it to someone in need. Drivers always needed. Contact Joyce Johnson if interested or questions.
Habitat for Humanity: Redeemer has a long-standing partnership with Habitat for Humanity, an organization that utilizes volunteer labor to build homes for families that could not otherwise afford them. Volunteers help to build a home every Saturday, and volunteers are sometimes needed to make lunch for the workers. Eager helpers welcome. Contact Ed or Judy Connelly if interested.
Prayer Chain: Redeemer’s prayer warriors are always willing to lift up names to the Lord. Please use the prayer request form to submit prayer requests. Contact church office if interested or questions.
Angel Tree: Each Christmas, Redeemer members partner with the local non-profit Humility of Mary to provide Angel Tree gifts to children of low-income families in the community. Contact church office if interested or questions.
Contact Mary Beth Averweg, Judy Connelly, or Barb Wells if interested in any of these social ministries without contact information.
