Youth (7th-12th Grades)
Middle School Sunday School
Each Sunday the middle schoolers (7th-8th graders) come together to continue to discuss their Confirmation lessons from the previous Wednesday. Using this time to dive even deeper into what their faith means to them. To ask questions and to learn more about the Bible.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is when the 7th-8th graders begin to learn what their faith means to them as an individual. During this time, we dive deeper into their questions and explore what it means to affirm their baptism.
We encourage all confirmation students to attend Confirmation Camp, a week-long adventure at Lutheran Lakeside Camp. During this time away from their families, they explore their faith with their peers and leaders. Financial assistance is available for campers.
Reflection Night for 9th Graders is the second Tuesday in September, at which the soon-to-be-confirmed students meet for an hour to reflect on their Confirmation experience, to learn more about what is offered to them within the church now that they are in high school, and to discuss and choose the Bible verse they will use as their guiding light in their daily life.
HIGH SCHOOL
Youth Group occurs weekly on Thursdays during Sept-May from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the Youth Basement. This is a time to unplug from the busy life of being a high school student. During our time together we start each meeting with a devotion, discuss our lives (without judgement only love and grace), play games, and participate in a monthly service project! We use this time to learn to our embrace faith and to be who you are!
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
During the summer months we meet up for a monthly activity. In June we invite the new youth group members, the incoming 9th graders on the first Friday of summer break to celebrate the start of summer and welcome them into the youth group (location TBA). In July is when we go on one of our trips (open only to students who have completed a year of high school through 12th grade graduates).
We meet prior to the trip to discuss it and build camaraderie. In August we have two events, another outcoming activity (location TBA) and then the week before school starts, we regroup in the Youth Basement to play games and plan for our upcoming Youth Group time.
During the summer we go on a trip that usually lasts about a week. To participate in a youth trip, you need to complete your 9th grade year of high school (these trips are open to the recent 12th grade graduates).
Each year we rotate between different trip styles. The three main trips are the ELCA Youth Gathering, a service focused trip, and an adventure/devotion trip.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Service Opportunities: Such as Café on Vine! Twice a year we prepare food for Café on Vine and help out at Café on Vine. In addition, we partner with the kids Sunday School to help with local non-profits, by holding and participating in donation drives. We also partner with other local nonprofits to help meet the needs of their organization, such as holding a diaper drive, creating cold-weather bags, collecting and stocking our small food pantry located in our parking lot, collecting gifts for “Angel Trees”, and more!
Youth Led Service: Twice a year, November and Transfiguration Sunday, the youth ministry comes together to lead and develop a worship service! All together the youth with the support of the music coordinator, the youth leader, and pastor create a service that displays their talents and gifts to the congregation.
